Townsville Quarterly Meetings

Future Quarterly Meetings for AMOU Townsville Members

AMOU Members in Townsville celebrated a Christmas get together last week and in so doing, set a course for the future. So successful was the evening that many suggested that similar meetings should take place on an organised and structured basis- a suggestion that has been embraced by the Union. As a result, it is the intention of the Union to have quarterly meetings.

About 30 members attended the Townsville Sailing Club where AMOU Industrial Officer Robert Coombs had the pleasure of welcoming guests and passing on the best Xmas wishes of AMOU Officials and Staff. His presentation included an industrial round up where members were reminded about the huge changes and challenges confronting members locally, as a result of Queensland Government reforms taking place. Our members in both Pilotage and MSQ are at the forefront of these changes which will result in a new employer, at the very least.

Other areas of interest, such as the new framework for state Commercial Shipping Acts, and new legislation for Australian Shipping were also discussed.

The next meeting will occur in the new year where it is envisaged to invite a guest speaker. All AMOU members will be invited to attend, and hopefully the same interest and attendance will be generated.
