QUEENSLAND DEPARTMENT HEADS REWARDED FOR SACKING STAFF

Leaked documents have revealed that substantial bonuses are being paid to department heads that cut staffing levels. The "Public Service Commission Chief Executive Performance Framework Guidelines for 2012-13" shows that department heads are eligible to receive a 15% bonus for the "implementation of more cost effective structures than set out in the approved staffing model".

QCU president John Battams said it was a "disgrace that this government has used a personal financial incentive to encourage the sacking of more people".

He estimated that a department head in charge of a large department on around $500,000 a year could pocket a $75,000 bonus if their job reductions meets the "far exceeds expectations" ranking on the government's performance framework guidelines.
