No excuse for violence against women and children

The AMOU strongly believes that there is no excuse for violence against women and children, ever. According to Domestic Violence NSW, the peak organisation representing women and children who experience domestic and family violence, "it was flooded with emails and contact via social media expressing outrage and a sense within the community that something must be done to stop this cowardly violence against women and children" following the horrendous Easter long weekend, in which three women were killed by their former intimate partners and two children were killed and one seriously injured by their father.  The third child remains in hospital in a serious condition.

"More than one woman dies every week in Australia from domestic and family homicide. Over one hundred thousand women and children are the victims of domestic and family violence every year in New South Wales alone. It is time to stop this violence from happening behind closed doors and to commit to a national public campaign to keep women and children alive, safe and free from violence."
