MV Andrea languishes in Port of Melbourne

In late August we reported that Agility Shipping had pulled the plug on the Bass Strait run. The employer, Austral Asian Maritime Group Pty Ltd advised our members that their employment would be terminated as of the 29 August 2011. For whatever reason, and those reasons still remain unclear, the termination letters were rescinded and the crew of the Andrea now sit at anchor in the Port of Melbourne waiting and the international crew that had arrived in Australia to demobilise the vessel has flown back overseas. We can only speculate on the vessels future, but it is not a satisfactory position for our members to find themselves in. At least all wages, so far, have been paid up to date.
