IMO's Day of the Seafarer 25 June 2012

Dear Friends

IMO's Day of the Seafarer 25 June 2012

The United Nations' International Maritime Organization (IMO) is launching the second edition of its Day of the Seafarer campaign using social networks where they hope to see a large number of people participating.

This year, they will ask people around the globe to say, "Thank you seafarers" on Facebook, via tweets, by posting a video on YouTube, or even writing an inspirational blog.

The IMO decided this year to highlight the positive influence seafarers have on the daily life of ordinary people through maritime transport. This is why in addition, they are asking people to choose one object that came by sea and they could not live without. In addition, to photograph that object and post it on one of our social channels or tweet about it using the phrase: "It came by sea and I can't live without it"

The IMO are asking people to:

  • share the information on the campaign with your own networks and contacts - (e.g. the attached toolkit)
  • Display a Day of the Seafarer logo on your website to show support (attached & available online)
  • "Like" on Facebook: at or
  • Follow on Twitter: @IMOHQ @SeafarerDay
  • Watch their videos on YouTube:
  • Create blogs, content, testimonials that the IMO will publish on their channels on the Day of the Seafarer

The Day of the Seafarer is on the 25 June when the IMO will ask the world to say "Thank you Seafarers" in as many ways as possible.

The IMO are asking those to get involved right now. They have created the attached toolkit: it will explain how you can get involved leading up to and on the Day of the Seafarer.

All the toolkits are accessible, along with the latest article about the day, via
