Gladstone Tug Tragedy

At about 1250 on Saturday 11 June 2011 the tug 'Adonis' capsized in Gladstone harbour when towing a barge within port limits.

The tug had three in the crew together with a supernumerary who was conducting a 'Certificate of Local Knowledge' exercise.

Captain Dudley Jacobs, a retired Glladstone Marine Pilot (ex Howard Smith) was killed in the accident.

Dudley was a great friend and mentor to all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

The AMOU and Gladstone members are providing all support to the family and to the Tugmasters involved.

The tug and barge and the attending second tug are operated by Sea Swift, a Cairns based company.

The funeral is expected to take plcae early next week with more details available on the AMOU website.
