FPSO's Health and Safety Representatives Conference

The National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environment Management Authority (NOPSEMA) is the occupational health and safety regulator of the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 and the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (Environment) Regulations 2009. NOPSEMA "utilises a wide range of tools to promote and secure compliance by duty holders of their obligations in relation to occupational health and safety, environmental management and structural integrity of petroleum facilities."

NOPSEMA in the past has attempted to engage with Health and Safety Representatives by promoting the Australian Petroleum and Exploration Association Ltd (APPEA) annual Health and Safety Conference, however this conference has not been well attended by the "on the job, volunteer Health and Safety Representatives", instead the conference has been attended largely by Health and Safety Representative Officers / Managers who work out of corporate offices. We suspect the invitation is sent to the corporate offices and the Health and Safety Representative Officers / Managers read the invitation and for whatever reason do not pass the invitation on to the "on the job, volunteer Health and Safety Representatives"

Consequently, NOPSEMA are not having the opportunity to engage with "on the job, volunteer Health and Safety Representatives". We want your voice heard this year, so please contact your employer and request that you attend the Australian Petroleum Production Exploration Association (APPEA) Health and Safety Regulators Workforce Forum-Convention and Exhibition Centre, Perth on 10th -13th September 2012.

The AMOU in conjunction with the ACTU and the other unions will have a strong presence at the event and we are proposing to host a session alongside the conference on Tuesday 11 September 2012. More details to follow.
